BNS Section 99

What is the punishment for buying a child for prostitution or illicit intercourse?

Short answer

Imprisonment of at least seven years, up to fourteen years, and a fine.

In detail

The law says that any person who buys, hires, or otherwise takes control of a child with the purpose of using that child for prostitution or illicit sexual activity, or who knows it is likely the child will be used that way, commits a serious offence. The punishment for such a crime is a term of imprisonment that cannot be less than seven years and may go up to fourteen years, and the offender must also pay a fine. Additionally, if a prostitute or a brothel manager obtains a girl under eighteen, the law assumes they intended to use her for prostitution unless they can prove otherwise. This provision aims to protect children from being exploited for sexual purposes by imposing severe penalties on those who facilitate such exploitation.
